CME Nigeria Invitation 2017

September 6, 2016

Dear Friend,

Dr. Keith Plate and I would like you to prayerfully consider participating in a Navigator-sponsored Africa Partners-Medical short-term mission trip to Jos, Nigeria from Thursday, June 15, to Sunday, June 25, 2017. This trip will focus on providing hands-on practical continuing medical education to physicians in West Africa, primarily from Nigeria. The training is based on the premise that teaching the teachers will cause a greater impact for good. This trip has been developed based on successful Africa Partners-Medical short-term mission trips to Ghana and Nigeria over the last sixteen years.

The main focus of the trip is a three-day continuing medical education conference in Jos held from Monday, June 19 through Wednesday, June 21. The target audience is faculty at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Evangel Hospital, and several other hospitals in the area, as well as Nigerian and other West African physicians in practice, physicians in training, nurses, and other health care providers. The curriculum will be a series of short lectures, case-based discussions, and practical demonstrations of medical skills given by U.S. and local faculty, intended to help our African colleagues provide more effective care for the sick.

The CME course will be followed by a three-day Navigator-sponsored spiritual retreat from Thursday, June 22 to Sunday, June 25, at the SIM-ECWA Miango Retreat Center near Jos. This retreat is intended to deepen relationships with God, spouses, and family, and to promote further development of relationships between visiting faculty and African physicians. The retreat will be led by doctors and Navigator staff from the U.S. and Nigeria.

U.S. faculty will tentatively arrive in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, on Friday, June 16, stay overnight, and then drive three hours to Jos on Saturday, June 21. Team members can depart from Abuja on Sunday evening, June 25, and return to the U.S. on Monday, June 26.

Please contact Bart Clarke at or 507-292-0647, or Keith Plate at or 319-339-0918 if you are interested in further information regarding this opportunity to make a significant difference on a continent with multiple needs.
