FHEW Partners with APM

Members of the Foundation for Health Enhancement in Women (FHEW) traveled with Africa Partners Medical to Ghana in September 2009, for the annual CME conference and workshops at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). The FHEW team was made up of Dr. Violet Habwe (A clinical nephrologist at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC); her husband, Dr. Francis Dickson (a minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeon), Ms. Emma Wright (an RNFA specializing in laparoscopy), Ms. Ruth Dickson (A career photographer). Dr. Habwe gave lectures and conducted workshops on the critical care of patients with kidney diseases. Dr. Luca Stocchi (A colorectal surgeon from the Cleveland Clinic) worked with Dr. Dickson and Miss Emma Wright to introduce basic concepts and skills in laparoscopic surgery to a group of 12 surgeons from KATH. These surgeons were introduced to skills sets using home -made task kits, donated by students at the Mayo Clinic. FHEW shipped a complete laparoscopic system (Stryker) to Ghana for this mission and donated it to KATH at the end of the training session. Africa Partners Medical provided very well- organized travel and lodging arrangements. This was a fun trip. Your reputation for excellence made it easier for our group to engage the surgeons and hierarchy of KATH. We feel very proud to be a part of your team and we hope to help you build a center of excellence in minimally invasive surgery at KATH.
