This is a 3-day conference/training to empower young physicians (1st 5 years after medical school) in Africa to aim for the highest possible standards of healthcare for their patients by balancing medical knowledge, practice, physician-patient relationships, ethics and limited resources.
The conferences are organized into plenary sessions in the mornings and several practical training sessions in the afternoons. We also include sessions on team building and special presentations from motivational speakers, life coaches, etc. in the evenings.
In the past, we have dedicated ~3 days to the training of New Young Doctors (participants who have not previously attended and ~2 days to Alumni Young Doctors (participants returning from previous years). In 2019, we piloted the training nurses/midwives and we will include nurses in upcoming conferences due to its success and the opportunity to develop better-trained, collaborative and empowered healthcare teams. Our faculty is made up of distinguished, internationally recognized scholars and seasoned physician – scientists who are also engaging and passionate educators from the US, Europe and Africa.
We offer certificate sessions on Basic Life Support, Newborn Resuscitation (Helping Babies Breathe), Obstetrical Emergencies Physician-Patient Interactions. Training is focused on medical topics/updates as well as using the theme as a backdrop to discuss other topics of interest (e.g. Effective provider/patient communications, shared decision making, etc.). Other broad topics in the past have included:
